Dirty Window & Dirty Laundry

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood.

The next morning, while they are eating breakfast,

the young woman sees her neighbor hang the wash outside.

That laundry is not very clean, she said,

she doesn’t know how to wash correctly.

Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.

Her husband looked on, but remained silent.

Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry,

the young woman would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised

to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband:

Look! She has learned how to wash correctly.

I wonder who taught her this.

The husband said:

I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows!

And so it is with life:                                  

What we see when watching others,

depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

Before we give any criticism,

it might be a good idea to check our state of mind and ask ourselves

if we are ready to see the good

rather than to be looking for something in the person

we are about to judge.

Fenêtre Sale & Linge Sale

Un jeune couple emménage dans un nouveau quartier.

Le lendemain matin, alors qu'ils prenaient le petit déjeuner,

la jeune femme voit sa voisine suspendre sa lessive a l'extérieur.

La lessive n'est pas très propre, dit-elle,

Elle ne sait pas comment laver correctement.

Ou peut-être elle a besoin de meilleur savon à lessive.

Son mari la regardait, mais restait silencieux.

Chaque fois que sa voisine mettait son linge à sécher,

la jeune femme faisait les mêmes commentaires.

Environ un mois plus tard, la femme a été surprise

de voir un linge propre sur la corde, et dit à son mari:

Regarde ! Elle a enfin appris comment laver correctement.

Je me demande qui lui a appris cela.

Le mari dit: Je me suis levé tôt ce matin et j'ai nettoyé nos fenêtres!

Et C'est Comme Ca La Vie :

Ce que nous voyons en regardant les autres, dépend

de la pureté de la fenêtre à travers laquelle nous regardons.

Avant de donner la moindre critique, ce pourrait être une bonne idée

de vérifier notre état d'esprit et de nous demander

si nous sommes prêts à voir le bien plutôt que de chercher quelque chose

 dans la personne que nous sommes en train de juger.
